Amanda
is a fiddler and a fiddle teacher. She has won the 2004 National
Oldtime Fiddle Contest's Junior (under 18) division as well as the
Alaska State Fair Contest in 2000, 2001, 2002, & 2003.
Amanda started playing violin when she was about 4 years old, and
developed good technique from Suzuki training. She has entered and
placed in top levels of several fiddle contests, both locally and
in the lower 48.
Besides her extensive fiddle experience, Amanda has trained at the
Southcentral Alaska Suzuki Institute, and is certified to teach
through Book One of the Suzuki method for violin.
Amanda plays in a band called the Emeralds. They have produced two
CDs. Amanda gives private fiddle lessons to young kids, and sometimes
does workshops at festivals and music camps. She does occasional
studio work for local recording artists. She has performed with
the Irish Dance Academy of Alaska as a dancer in their advanced
group. |
